Area legislators react to Doyle's State of the State address:

Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch:

"I'm very optimistic about the chance that the Republican Assembly has to work with the governor to do some of these things to spur the economy."

Sen. Dan Kapanke:

"Given some of the recent news about our nation's economy, I appreciate the governor's attention towards economic development. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate and the Assembly on both sides of the aisle to ensure that Wisconsin takes the steps necessary to insulate ourselves from national economic pressures. . . . We must do everything feasible to support job growth and development, ensuring that our economy grows rather than falls behind."

Sen. Sheila Harsdorf:

"Wisconsin citizens expect us to work together to deal with these economic challenges, and I am heartened by the Governor's approach on health care reform and the economy – two vital issues to working families."

Rep. Kitty Rhoades:

"The governor is right. We're going to face some significant fiscal challenges. . . . We are definitely going to have to do some significant reductions down the line."

Rep. Terry Moulton:

"As the chairman of the Small Business committee and a small business owner myself, I know that to create good jobs, we need to lower the tax burden and reign in rising health care costs. The governor did Wisconsin taxpayers a service tonight by talking about plans to do both."

Rep. Jeff Wood:

"It wasn't a typical State of the State. He didn't come out and promise the moon. I think he recognizes that the state is broke."
